Common client presentations include neck and back pain, shoulder restrictions, Sciatica and Tennis Elbow. However, Bowen practitioners do not treat specific conditions. We treat the body in a holistic way, allowing the body to change the way in which the muscles and soft tissue inter react, thereby facilitating structural or muscular change. The pace of which is determined by the client and not the therapist.
Although readjustment can sometimes be rapid, three or four treatments at weekly intervals is more likely, to achieve lasting relief. Chronic conditions may also benefit from top-up treatments over a more extended period of time.
The Bowen Technique is a gentle, light touch remedial therapy, in which the practitioner uses thumbs and forefingers on precise points of the body to make rolling type moves. These moves are made over muscles, tendons and ligaments and are interspersed with periods of rest.
There is No manipulation, cracking of joints, or adjustment of hard tissue and it is not a form of massage.
The sequence of rolling moves are thought to stimulate the muscles and soft tissue. The periods of rest allow the body the opportunity to determine its response, and it is these responses that make the adjustments which may help to re-align, auto-regulate, naturally heal and protect.
